For all varieties of avocados, we recommend a simple test for ripeness. Gently apply pressure on the stem to see if it yields. If it does, it's ready to eat! Avoid squeezing the centre of the fruit as the flesh will easily bruise inside.
We recommend ripening avocados naturally in the fruit bowl. However, to trigger the ripening process, simply place a hard or unripe avocado in a brown paper bag with an Apple or Banana. These fruits naturally release the plant hormone ethylene, which aids ripening. Once an avocado is at its ideal ripeness, store in the fridge for 2-3 days until ready to use
We absolutely love Direct from the market, fruit and vegetables are fresh and delicious. It works well for us having fresh produce delivered straight to the door. And the young man that delivers it is friendly polite and always has a smile.I highly recommend Direct from the market to all thank you all so much
Julie Goodwin
Hi there, Julie G here just a little about Direct from the market which was started accidentally, whilst our eldest son Dan was recovering from a major concussion which affected his short term memory and my other sons Tom & Luke where working at a local Sunday market. Someone posted on the residents of Rototuna facebook page that they didn't have time to get to the Sunday market and I thought I could get Dan to deliver fresh produce from the market and at the same time could gauge his progress with his memory loss. Direct from the market was formed and has grown steadily ever since. We love being able to provide fresh quality produce to your home, I love that we can include my sons and their friends in the business.
